Kiambu County is located in the Central region of Kenya. In the 2022-2027 government, Elias Mbuthia is serving as the Health Minister for Kiambu county. (This is as of November 2022). In the 2017-2022 government, John Murega held this position. Health Ministers are also known as ‘CEC Member for Health’ or CEC Representative for Health.
CEC stands for County Executive Committee. The committees’ chief executive is the county governor while the deputy chief executive is the deputy county governor. In addition to the health representative, the committee has other representatives (approximately ten in total). They represent other devolved functions listed here. Depending on the county, devolved roles are combined differently.
Kiambu County has 12 Sub-Counties:
- Gatundu North
- Gatundu South
- Githunguri
- Juja
- Kabete
- Kiambaa
- Kiambu Town
- Kikuyu
- Lari
- Limuru
- Ruiru
- Thika Town
In summary, Kiambu County has 730 health facilities spread across the 12 sub-counties. 7.9% of these are faith-based facilities (58) while 16.3% belong to the ministry of health (119). This leaves 1.9% under NGO’s (14) and 73.8% listed as private facilities (539). Kenya has a total of 14,251 health facilities. This translates to Kiambu County having 5.12% of the country’s Total Facilities.

In Gatundu North sub-county, there are 26 health facilities. This makes up 14% of the health facilities in Kiambu County and 0.18% of the total number in the country.
Gatundu North houses the following 4 Wards: Gituamba, Githobokoni, Chania & Mang’u .

In Gatundu South sub-county, there are 27 health facilities. This makes up 4% of the health facilities in Kiambu County and 0.19% of the total number in the country.

In conclusion,
- There are a total of 60 wards in the 12 sub counties of Kiambu County. Ruiru has the highest (8) number of wards while Gatundu North, Gatundu South & Kiambu have the lowest (4 each).
- Thika Town has the highest number (155) of health facilities (21% of Kiambu County & 1.09% of Kenya).
- Lari has the highest number of Faith-Based Health Facilities. (Total of 9 out of 58)
- Lari & Thika Town has the highest number of Ministry of Health Facilities (Public). (Total of 17 each out of 119)
- Thika Town has the highest number of NGO Health Facilities. (Total of 6 out of 14)
- Thika Town has the highest number of Private Health Facilities. (Total of 126 out of 539)
