Migori County is located in the Nyanza region of Kenya. In the 2022-2027 government, Julius Awuor Nyerere is serving as the Health Minister for Migori county. (This is as of November 2022). In the 2017-2022 government, Kepher Joseph Nyamita held this position. Health Ministers are also known as ‘CEC Member for Health’ or CEC Representative for Health.
CEC stands for County Executive Committee. The committees’ chief executive is the county governor while the deputy chief executive is the deputy county governor. In addition to the health representative, the committee has other representatives (approximately ten in total). They represent other devolved functions listed here. Depending on the county, devolved roles are combined differently.
Migori County has 8 Sub-Counties:

- Kuria East
- Kuria West
- Nyatike
- Rongo
- Suna East
- Suna West
- Uriri
In summary, Migori County has 319 health facilities spread across the 8 sub-counties. 7.8% of these are faith-based facilities (25) while 49.5% belong to the ministry of health (158). This leaves 5.3% under NGO’s (17) and 37.3% listed as private facilities (119). Kenya has a total of 14,251 health facilities. - There are a total of 40 wards in the 8 sub counties of Migori County. Nyatike & Kuria West both have the highest (7) number of wards while Rongo, Awendo, Suna East & Suna West all have the lowest (4).
- Kuria West has the highest number (70) of health facilities (22% of Migori County & 0.49% of Kenya).
- Nyatike has the highest number of Faith-Based Health Facilities. (Total of 5 out of 25)
- Nyatike has the highest number of Ministry of Health Facilities (Public). (Total of 35 each out of 158)
- Nyatike has the highest number of NGO Health Facilities. (Total of 8 out of 17)
- Imenti North has the highest number of Private Health Facilities. (Total of 35 out of 119)
